It was sort of telling when one Loudoun father was filming clips for his DD on the iPad....just a rec player, ok.

Didn't Loudoun play in FPYC and Valor (which is Chantilly's travel team) Rec tournaments also in recent seasons?
Obviously, no one has a problem with Loudoun playing in tournaments except for some Not Winning Sore Losers. The problem with Chantilly is that they do not have good coaching. Just some talentless yeller coaches who will never get their players to make a high school team.

Also, what is the big deal about a parent filming their kids game? I've been filming my son's games since he was 5 years old playing T-ball. Ha! Is that such a crime?

What happened with filming? You got harassed? I have never heard of filming not allowed.

Not Herndon Cup, but I've had rec parents from CYA's rec team (13G Weber) threaten to call the cops on me multiple occasions for filming my own daughter's match. They'd send parents, coach, and CYA staff to demand that I stop filming.

That's crazy. Been a "soccer parent" for over 10 years and I always try to film or photograph highlights from my kids' games, both rec and travel. Never heard of this.

When a PP mentioned CYA 13G I thought of some of the parents whose kids are likely on that team. I deal with them in other sports and activities. Not too surprised to hear that they're freaking out about some thing or another.

Basketball too?

If you want things to change writing on DCUM isn't going to do a thing! The problem with CYA Soccer is that the give way too much power to the AGC of each division (Age Group Coordinator). They have full control over the division and CYA 2013G team coach is also the AGC. Last season enough people complained about the 2014G AGC and he is no longer there and the division is way better for it. People love to complain on this thread about this coach, but they offer no solutions. I encourage everyone that has an issue to write the CYA Director (CYADylan@ChantillyYouth.org or Soccer@ChantillyYouth.org) and detail everything that you think is wrong. I honestly believe that CYA is a good organization and that the higher ups want to do what is best. However, they need to know what is happening at the lower levels in order to implement positive change. The best thing we can do is shine a light on matter and not let incident after incident go unreported.

Was CZ problematic?

And they are never taking photos when their kid is not in the game. Sometimes there are parents vying with each other for this unofficial position and it creates some entertainment

I am grateful when someone else with a better camera takes photos and videos. I never have my phone out at the right moments, and would feel weird filming the whole game as though I was trying to put together some kind of highlight reel. The parents on our team who do it tend to be good about getting everyone in the photos/videos, and they get some great shots. It's a travel team so the kids have been playing together longer. We're lucky to have parents who support all the kids not just their own.

I'm "that guy" on my kids' teams -- I just enjoy capturing video highlights (especially goals) and sharing them with the rest of the team. I started doing it years ago as a well to remain "zen" during games and not yell too much, and found I actually enjoy it.

I don't watch professional sports, but a highlight reel of a kids team showing them playing with pure passion and love for the game can't be beat in my opinion!

Nothing crazier than VA rec league soccer parents (esp. the girl parents!). Keep it going folks. Am enjoying this read during my lunch hour!

That would be the only logical reason for such reactions. Hard to deny when you have photo/video as proof!

Messi and Ronaldo kids soccer games are filmed by other parents, but CYA is so good that they "DO NOT CONSENT"? Ok Chantilly Karens! And they accuse Loudoun of what they do? Hypocrites!

I'm the PP that was filming the CYA 13G game with the Veo camera. There's nothing more to the story on my part. I was filming at Sully Highlands on the parent sideline at the midfield line well away from the touchline.

Yeah it's unusual that someone is filming a SFL game on a Veo, but I use it primarily for my other child's travel games, and if I'm going to spend that much out of pocket for it, I'm going to maximize the use. Also, having memories of your own sports games is a joy you can cherish forever. Even when the CYA Rec Director got on the phone with the CYA 13G Weber team to tell them filming was permitted and to look around at all the other people with cell phones, they stayed aggressively firm that they were in the right with their demands that I cease recording. "We do not consent" was repeated multiple times.

Others have said that the team may have had travel players who shouldn't be on the team.

Scout opponents for SFL games? LOL.

Is the issue about taking video of his kid or is he using the video to dispute calls or scout opponents? Pretty standard that everyone takes pictures/videos of their kids so I assume there was more going on.
