Does not getting one signal something? I am fairly sure that DC's application is strong enough that it would not have been automatically rejected. But, no interview yet..Not clear what to make of this!

At least for Stanford, my understanding is that interviews are matched based on availability of alumni in the applicant’s geographic area to accommodate an interview.

If you’re not from California or a prominent metro area outside California, the matching process is probably hit-or-miss.

Having said that, the interview process - at least for my kid - was less of a structured interview and more of a casual coffee to discuss interests, areas of interest that set his curiosity ablaze, goals down the road, etc.

Same. DD had Stanford interview early this past week. She sent a thank you e-mail the following morning, but has yet to receive a response. I guess that could be a bad sign!

PP parent here. My DD sent thank you email the following evening and didn't hear anything back either. Her interviewer was slow to respond to all of her emails, so she didn't take it personally. Interviewer is a busy person.

Stanford interviewer my DC had told them they were not allowed to have any contact/communication after interview was over.

Yale just sent out round one to the local alumni on Thursday. I just emailed out my invites now. Because of the numbers, they do them in batches. I may get more after Thanksgiving. They have to allow the first read before sending out the lists for interviews.

Does Yale do another round after Thanksgiving? Gets pretty close to the Dec 1 deadline for submission of interview reports, no? Or is that not a firm deadline?

Interviews till being scheduled. maybe more after the break.

New to this college talk! What does SCEA mean?

No, they don't matter. Good or bad - Harvard alum

Given that so much information is provided in the common app, numerous supplemental questions, rec letters, transcript, etc. what more will a 30-45 minute interview with an alum add to a student's file? Is Yale trying to figure out if the kid is obnoxious? Weird? Is the interview a courtesy prior to a deferral or rejection? What am I failing to understand here?

It’s neither a bad sign nor a good sign. Take them at their word - they feel like they need more information. Four students were admitted to Yale from my daughter’s school last year. One had an interview and three did not. So it really means nothing in terms of admission (except you know you didn’t go in the auto-deny pile).

Yes they do. They give us all something fret about in this month-long slog until decisions are released. 😂
