I am curious about this. What don't you trust about people baking a pie? That they lick their fingers and would make you sick? That they would sneak in peanuts and you're allergic? I am seriously asking. If someone went to the trouble to make and donate a baked item, I am going to assume only the best about them. That they're clean, they're kind, they're generous. And if the baked good sucks (I also bake and am pretty good at it) I give them ALL THE UPs for trying! Baking something for someone is so nice!
Anyway, my 2 cents. My kids' PTAs have never done anything like this. I now work at a school and would be happy with a pie.
I feel the same! I used to work in restaurants through college and some of them are DISGUSTING!! So gross. And, some of the people who cook your food, can also be a bit gross.
Store bought pies aren't necessarily going to be 'cleaner', IMO.
Eat the pie or don't, but I wouldn't summarily dismiss a homemade pie. Anyone willing to bake something gets credit from me, just like the PP says.
Pies made for Costco is not the same as a restaurant. They are mass produced in an automated factory. That is why they are so cheap. Very little human interaction. It’s cleaner than most hoses. A restaurant is different. Restaurants have health and food safe standards to get their food license. A home baker has none!

What exactly don’t you trust?
Are you afraid the student’s mom will nefariously tamper with it? Unlikely.
Do you believe a pie purchased in a grocery store or bakery was prepared in a cleaner kitchen? Lol. Not a chance.

I'm happy to make a pie for someone that actually wants it, but I am finding it a little hard to believe that all the teachers actually want a pie. IME, there are a lot of people that don't like pie, a bunch of people that prefer their own home-made pie, and some people who just won't eat anything cooked in other people's kitchens. I wish the PTA had, instead of guaranteeing a pie for each teacher, just asked teachers to sign up if they affirmatively wanted a pie (and saying what kind of pie they want -- some people hate pumpkin, others hate pecan, some hate apple, most hate mince...).
I usually love our PTA, so trying not to criticize, but just really curious if these initiatives are actually popular with the teachers.
