Ok but why do some sports get them but not others? I’m sorry but it’s a joke for girls to have freshman field hockey while it’s can’t have freshman soccer. Girls can literally decide to try the sport for the first time in 9th grade and make the team. While boys who have played high level soccer for years have to try out for JV and hope they can somehow stand out among 100+ boys most of whom are older and bigger.
And I agree about football. Girls end up having so many more options for teams to join because the total number of participants has to be equal to boys. Football eats up a huge percentage of spots on the boys side. There is nothing equivalent on the girls side. Title IX should be total number of teams, not number of athletes.
My kid's HS doesn't have freshman field hockey, has freshman football/basketball but that's it. I don't know of any FCPS schools that have freshman field hockey, maybe some do.
