It’s true that DCUM isn’t representative of D.C. residents. But that’s because people here are paying attention to what Councilmembers do; most D.C. voters are extremely ignorant and disinterested when it comes to local politics. Have you ever worked the polls? Or tried having a discussion with your neighbors? Probably 95% of the people in this city couldn’t name all 13 members of the Council.

I disagree with your premise, but I definitely agree that people on this site think they're above their neighbors.

The voters fired Elissa Silverman. They can do the same with Allen.

And I'd say there's a good chance they'll fire Janeece, which will be a bellwether of things to come.

Maybe. Elissa was involved in a city wide campaign against a popular former CM whom many think is going to be the mayor. JLG and Allen are both in standalone wards with strong followings, despite what this site seems to feel.

I agree everyone has the right to their opinion. My opinion is that criminals are put in jail and the streets remain safe. I hope you have a safe weekend. Good luck to you.

Incumbents with so-called "strong followings" do not get viable, well-funded primary challengers, as is happening in Ward 4. JLG is extremerely vulnerable.

Allen only ran unopposed because he did everything he could to get his most viable challenger redistricted to Ward 7.

I guess we'll see. I'm usually a passive part of the electoral process, but the way Lisa (who I know reads this site based on her post on the other thread) is attacking JLG with crime reply style posts and retconning her career as if she was a cop has already caused me to donate to JLG and sign up to volunteer. I think Gore is going to fall firmly in the green team side, and I don't think they're as strong in W4 as they used to be. Could be wrong tho, I have been before!

I'm still not sure why JLG supporters keep bringing this up despite an utter lack of evidence evidence. Even the CityPaper reporter, who is an unabashed JLG fan, reported that there's no evidence that Gore is in cahoots with Bowser. Gore herself denies it.

It's such a desperate reach, but that's the one talking point they seem to be going with.

18 months ago this was her platform: "Gore, 54, lives in Hawthorne and is a retired federal agent. She said her priority is to provide housing for those in need and create housing policies that build equity for people, such as community land trusts. She wants to fight against displacement of Black and Brown people and repair public housing, along with ensuring housing for other groups, such as LGBTQ+ youths, people with disabilities, seniors and victims of domestic violence. Gore has experience in investigating public housing authorities and other housing programs. Her endorsements include Greater Greater Washington."

I believe that the fact that she's completely shifted to a law and order campaign to try and displace JLG wasn't something that she came up with all on her own. It's like a completely different person running.

Who cares. Wouldnt you rather be represented by someone who is willing to listen to her constituents' concerns? JLG is hard left activist who is never, ever, ever going to support any crack down on crime, no matter how bad it gets and no matter how much her ward pleas with her to change.

I'm in her ward and am not pleading for her to change. I support her stances. I have a feeling there are more of us than you may believe. I particularly think the bolded is hyperbole and not a particularly intelligent opinion.

Good luck with that.

With what?

With supporting those no jail, no consequence stances. I mean what could go wrong? Just ask one ward over in ward 5, Bloomingdale. You think Russell Dunkley is a one off? You’re ok with hard core drug users who habitually sexually assault people and masterbate repeatedly in public and punch and kick people in the head when they don’t immediately give him money on demand so he can buy MORE drugs in the open air drug market down the street? No big deal. No jails. Who cares!

I appreciate your passion but I disagree with your representation of my beliefs. Our votes count the same though, so it's okay to have differing viewpoints.

"People" don't - which is to say, the voters don't. The haters do, because she's an outspoken Asian-American woman with progressive political beliefs. It checks all of the haters' boxes.

Not quite.

She viciously attacked the police, calling them “thugs” and “goons.” She repeatedly called for policing to be abolished. Not defunded. Abolished. And this brutal attack on MCPD wasn’t because of anything they actually did. The department is now 20% down and can’t hire, and that is partially because of the hostile work environment she helped create with her spewing hatred.

She is now on the public safety committee. Really? Biased much?

Some of us like our politicians to be a little more mature and reasonable.

Yep, there she is, checking all of your hater boxes. But you're not the one to decide. The voters decide.

I’ll be surprised if she’s re-elected. Very. She is not trusted outside her little super-progressive, closed circle of supporters.

And if I’m a “hater” for calling somebody out for poor behavior, then so be it. I believe politicians are accountable to the public. That includes me. That includes, ironically, the police that she clearly and openly disdains.

You: hating anonymously in the internet.
Her: going out and doing actual things.

No, some people have actually met her and have grown up with her in the area. Trust me, it’s much deeper than this childish deflection. She’s not very likable…the fact that she promotes poorly thought out ideas is a bonus.
