I think its rude and lazy and poor manners to leave a bowl out. Either you are participating in the custom, which is passing out candy in person, or you are not.

This is an odd perspective. We leave candy out because we’re taking our own children trick or treating. We have 3, one with special needs, and it takes 2 adults to keep them safe. But even if it didn’t, we both want to go with them!

Unclench. We were across the street doing a firepit. Kids were perfectly happy to take candy from our bowl. No one dumped the whole bowl into their bags or anything like that. In 22207 all I saw was lots of adorable, polite little kids and lots of funny, polite teens.

Also, why would anyone begrudge a kid coming into the neighborhood for TOT? Ugh!

In Annandale, Virginia a group of teens rang a doorbell and called the houseowners the n-word twice.


In 2023. So bold, so blatant.

I had a ton of kids who just stood there and stared at me, like no "trick or treat" or anything....so i stared at them back! sometimes they then said "hi". It was weird.

I did have one group of 3 boys who were grabby and started stepping into my house to get at my bowl which I was holding. I'm like, please don't come in my house!

Nothing more annoying than the parents screaming "say thank you".

One family sent a gaggle of 4-5 kids up (I assume parents were at the end of the driveway but it was dark) all under the age of 7 or so, one was visibly ill and could not stop coughing a phlegmy cough and another one who was probably 2 and did not speak and was grabbing at the candy. They also wouldn’t leave! After giving them each a few pieces of candy I basically had to say “Happy Halloween!” and shut the door in their faces.
