I have low blood pressure and get very dizzy in hot tubs (and don't really go in them anymore unless I can control the temp).

It wouldn't have been a major event if he'd passed out on land ... but passing out into the water could have been deadly if others weren't there to haul him out before he drowned.

Do you know what the emt did to revive him?
My memory is kind of hazy, it all happened really fast. So please don't take this as any kind of advice or guidance for similar situations, I could be missing a lot - trained professionals are necessary. He brought cool wet washcloths and draped them around the guys face and neck. Made us all back up so fresh air could flow. I know he was checking pulse and breathing the whole time, I'm sure his reaction would have escalated if those had changed. There was more, I'm just not sure of the details. Mostly just trying to wake him up, while keeping an eye on vitals to make sure he didn't need more intensive emergency care. Friend was petty sure he wasn't in the water long enough to worry about drowning - everyone was right there, and freaked out as soon as he fell forward - it was just getting him out of that initial faint. It would be VERY different if the person spent a minute or two face-down in the water. Which is really why hot tubs need to be treated with just as much respect as pools or the ocean...

If you’ve read his book you know how weakened his vital organs were from decades of abuse. He is very upfront about this. This is sadly not a surprise. Addiction is a nasty beast. It’s impacts last even if you get sober.

10% of his post on IG were since October 11, many referring himself as Mattman (Batman his favorite character). And a post standing with his dad. I wonder if he knew he had a major health problem or just manic or depressed. Sad.

I am so glad that he was able to get sober and write his book before died. It will shift his legacy a little rather than just being viewed as a washed up addict.
Could be the combination of the exercise and then heat of the jacuzzi led to him passing out or could have been a major cardiac event given his weakened heart. Hopefully not substance induced and hopefully quick and painless.
I feel for his family and friends too. I am sure they spent decades worried they would get a call he had died related to his addiction and now that he has been sober, the call came

Hot water will make you more sleepy. I never understand why people sit in a hot tub drinking alcohol.
He was living in sobriety.
But being in a hot tub or sauna puts strain on the cardiovascular system and drops blood pressure. It’s not really a safe activity for small children, elders, and anyone with known or suspected heart disease. Given Perry’s history of extreme drug use, his heart was certainly very far from 100%. It’s too bad he enjoyed the jacuzzi so much, but on the other hand he died doing something he loved, I guess.
