If I'm around, and DH comes home with groceries I might help put them away. But I also might not. I might be in a meeting. The kitchen might be too crowded. I might be lazy. DH might ask me to just let him do it. Or he might ask me to help. We kind of roll like that. Give 100% of what you can! Sometimes that means helping with grocery put away. And sometimes that means staying the f away from your partner!!

If o go shopping, I put the stuff away. If DH goes, he uses the one thing he buys.

Or is this a task that is shared?

No matter which of us goes shopping, we both put the groceries away, if we’re both home.

Person who shops puts away since it’s a time sensitive activity — leaving the perishables out is dangerous/wasteful. But it’s certainly polite of anyone else home at the time to lend a hand.

If someone comes home with groceries and the other person isn’t home or is engaged in some other useful activity, then the person puts the groceries away themselves.

This logic holds for spouses, kids, and anyone else who is staying at the home.

This is what works for us, too. It’s laid back and unofficial, but typically effective.

That said, sometimes DH will wander in when I’m in the middle of something like this or washing dishes or whatever, and he’ll just casually lean against a counter and start chatting away. That drives me crazy. He can be oblivious, so I have to remind him to help.

This sounds like something my husband would say .

I am a 44 year old 5’10” ER doc and mother of four, including two teenage sons. There is exactly one person in the world who thinks anything I do is “so cute,” and I absolutely love him for it. I hope that you keep finding your wife cute, pp!

Generally shared or he shops and I put away. Unless he overdoes it and buys a crazy amount. Then I put it away and let him know the rest (that doesn't fit) is up to him or can go in the deepfreeze.

DH shops and we both put away (with our teens). That way everyone knows where everything is. DH is pretty helpful around the house - so it's never been an issue. I'm more the lazy one.
