They could, doesn't change the fact that she was an employee of the family, no need to say ANY kind of romantic relationship between her and any member of the family was inappropriate. All becomes even more suspicious when they decide to be a "happy family" once the wife dies.

If you don't want to talk about Joe, may he RIP, we can talk more about the au pair's relationship with Brendan Banfield and the fact that it seemed to be a bit more than employer/employee? Again, per electronic records.
And that Brendan Banfield lied to LE, itself a crime, claiming he had shot Ryan, when they clearly did not believe him and charged the au pair. Why would he commit a crime being quasi LE himself to try to shield the fairly new to them au pair living in his home? Why wouldn't he WANT to speak with LE given the fact that his wife and the mother of his young daughter is dead?
Surely Dateline will cover this one.
Such a shame about the little girl, Christine and Joe who really seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and who only had a short acquaintance with the Banfields.
And that Brendan Banfield lied to LE, itself a crime, claiming he had shot Ryan, when they clearly did not believe him and charged the au pair. Was the au pair jealous of Joe Ryan's relationship with the couple?
It always seemed significant to me that Joe and Christine were killed the day they were, the morning after Brendan Banfield's birthday. Joe had not stayed over, from a few accounts he had only arrived that morning, but he had been there before.

the mom was a friend of the previous au pair, they had a good relationship, by the pictures the past au pair and host mom shared on social media.

They seem to be trying to get her to flip on Brendan Banfield to strengthen their case. Then they will offer her a plea.
i know someone that knew Juliana, she was telling people how great her bf was (brendan), and i did saw the picture juliana posted to her close friends with him.

Her last name is Portuguese (Magellan). So I’m assuming she is likely Brazilian, otherwise Portuguese given that more au pairs seem to come from South America than Europe.
There is a lot of smoke, but behind it all, there is a husband and a young au pair in the house. All my Agatha Christie experience says that they were plotting to get rid of the wife.
I think that they planned to frame Ryan for the stabbing of the wife. They stabbed her, got Ryan to arrive on the scene, and were going to use the wife and Ryan’s purported history together as motive. Perhaps they meant to kill Ryan, but they may have just wanted him to be framed. But something went wrong and the au pair shot him. That would explain them not having their story straight when they called 911.
Pp who said the police want the au pair to give up the husband for killing Christine is probably correct. Once she gives up the husband, they can reduce her charge to manslaughter and charge the husband with murder one.

Man, I hope the very young daughter has a lot of loving relatives in her life. This is really horrible.

For Joe's friends and loved ones, some of whom posted here, I'm glad your friend got a little bit of justice, I'm sorry for your loss. And for the little girl.
Brendan Banfield could have just gotten a divorce. Some men just don't want to share the $, etc.
From statements of friends, Joe and Christine were both very loved. The should both be alive today but for selfishness and greed.

This. I remember a neighbor posting she was still living there and being shocked. The poor child, first this bizarre situation, then losing mommy, now all of this. I hope there are stable loving family members who can take her in. It seems likely that Brendan Banfield will also be charged. He lied to police that he shot Ryan. Then refused to speak to them. Hmmm...
They will probably use Juliana to get to Brendan. Made he is the mind behind all this. my guess
