We live in MD, but does Centreville skew older age-wise? Seems like Lifetime is making the changes only there, and the other locations will still have the kids camps and the like. Maybe it says more about Centreville than Lifetime Fitness in general.

My gut tells me pickleball is a fad. Just like tennis was in the 80s (does anyone walk around in tennis outfits any more, headband and all? look at how they dressed on Three's Company), and aerobics (Jane Fonda style), and shuffleboard, and bocce ball.

So, you're not at the gym in the morning or afternoon but you know how all the facilities and offerings of the gym are being utilized and by whom? The gym needs to listen to you for your limited data and knowledge to make financial decisions? The vast majority of kids are never available during the day so should the kid offerings just sit there empty waiting for school to let out? Guaranteed there are adults there at all hours of the day. Kids are few in number with limited availability for most of the year. Whose needs would you rather meet if you cared about the bottom line?

My kids play basketball, but I don't begrudge a gym taking some basketball space for pickleball, yoga, pilates, etc. I want a healthy community and I like to see the old people out there enjoying themselves. (I guess the old people didn't like seeing kids playing basketball).

I'm not a big fan of the trend either.

At the park we used to go to, they tore out half of the basketball courts (about 3 full courts, not regulation size but six hoops total) to put in pickle ball courts.

The numbers don't really make sense to me because if you have a couple of 5v5 full court games or multiple half court games, the basketball courts would accommodate more people than the pickleball courts. And the courts are normally full there.

What's even worse is that sometimes the pickleball players bring a portable net and use the remaining basketball courts to play while waiting their turn to play on the main courts.

So we hardly go to that park now even though it has one of the nicer courts and rims in our area.

I guess it's just the trend now.

The Centreville location has really gotten crappy. There used to be a much bigger and better selection of food, there was a place you could get a haircut, the courts and bathrooms were well maintained and clean. Now its dirty and they keep getting rid of the amenities. No rock climbing, basketball courts or camps anymore?

There are no kids outside in our neighborhood. When my son wants to play basketball, he goes to Lifetime, where the pickup games are.

Its good for people to know that Lifetime isn't interested in their family's business. Why waste your time with them? Take your dollars elsewhere.
