I am reaching out to let you know that I (along with multiple Brookland Coaches) will be leaving the DC Soccer Club at the end of this spring season. The relationship has been extremely challenging.
I am reaching out to all of you as a courtesy so you can decide what you would like to do next year. I will be coaching in DC next year; however, I must wait for the attorneys to let me know what is feasible for us.
Ryan and I have thoroughly enjoyed creating Brookland FC and we love being a part of the Brookland Community.
We will keep you posted as soon as we can in regards to new details!

I will know within the next 3 weeks whether this is true or not. I "believe" that there is an issue with Tom and the Brookland crew with DCSC but hearsay at this point. Not sure if it has reached this level but I will check it out.

This is NOT new for DCSC as they have a history of lawsuits over the years in the academy with coaches. I have no idea what they have going on over there but not impressed with what I have been exposed to.

I would pursue DC XI, WCU, PPA, City Sports, DCYFC and DC Way if you want travel level ball in DC.

If you are complaining about going from NW to NE for competitive soccer, stay in the rec league as you don't belong in this space as a parent. Seriously. Nobody wants your complaining. Save your money. Stay in rec so we can elevate this space. Make your team play up a year to get more competitive. This space is not made for you.

The serious DC players have been traveling to Alexandria, Arlington and Bethesda for years. I would like DC to grow up eventually and put something serious together in the District. The District has the talent.

The issue is that the kids are all mixed up in all the different teams, so kids from Brookland aren't necessarily on Brookland/East teams, and kids from NW are often put on Brookland/East teams - which means its a big mess for everyone to get to their fields.

Having seen where they expect some of us to practice going into next year with this east west split, I have got to assume that they will be happy to lose a lot of families who have been here for some time. Just shows that they are not concerned with keeping players or families for the long term just making more money with these mergers and field grabs.

Tom got paid. Dcsc got access to a bunch of NE fields. Goliath beat David once again


But the fields are so far from most of the players that many refuse to practice at them. Not sure it was the win it was meant to be.

This is true and embarrassing. None of their teams had even made the two NL/EDP brackets previously, so it’s not a shock. But their girls side is strikingly poor. The boys side is much better.

I wouldn't be so sure. Nothing has really changed for them and unless the 2012s become overnight sensations, I'm not sure what would make the bleeding stop. People with strong players know that the bottom of ECRL in VA is not badge of honor. They also know that USYS/NL/EDP competition is often much better than ECRL across the board, depending on the level. Good players will seek out strong teams with strong coaches. I don't see any of that at DCSC. I just see lots of turnover, marketing themselves as ECNL (which they are not) and unhappy players.

I know ADP was supposed to help keep rec talent onboard, but it really hasn't done so. DCSC loses so many great kids to PPA or Bethesda early on. that they can't make up the lost ground.

The Virginia RL league is run by VPSL and not by ECNL. So it has a lot of quirks. They don't follow the ECNL rule on non resubstitution within a half. The don't require you to field a team in all six age groups. I think DSCS did not field all six this last fall. VPSLK allows in way too may non-quality teams into the "RL". Also reason why Virginia RL only gets two spots in the RL playoffs and then has to have a min-playoff to determinee who gets them.


THIS IS KEY. The VA ECRL league is totally a different animal to ECRLs everywhere else. I think that may also be part of the motivating factor for VA teams to move to GA or other leagues- its too big and not rigorous enough.

DCSC girls should look elsewhere before u13 for sure.

Interesting. By matter do you mean the club? How are their top teams doing this year with the switch to ECNL-R?

I agree with one PP that these leagues (ECNL, MLS Next) host so many average clubs who seem so far away from high level. That surely just indicates that the business and financial side of youth sport is the real priority. We had exposure to both sides of DC Soccer, and it is clear that the quality is nowhere near top league competition standard.

Winning a girls tournament the same weekend as Jefferson Cup is not the flex they need. I assume the 2012/2011 results show that building is possible and hope ECNLR gives them time. The next MLSN2 and GA2/GA expansion will continue to water down an already saturated landscape. It is starting to feel like AAU basketball with all the levels/division and national teams.
