Not true. Indian Immigrant - here for more than 2 decades and have teenagers. The first 10plus years we did mostly domestic vacations- lots of National and State Parks and once a year beach vacations ( Florida Clearwater, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and Hilton Head). However, since the pandemic, everything in the US is ridiculously expensive - and it makes more sense to travel internationally.

Also, I agree with OP, when we went to Cape Cod and NE coast in Summer 2018, we saw very few Desis or POC.

I do think the number of POCs on National Parks have increased since the pandemic.

Finally, it’s not fair to pigeonhole all Desis ( Indians or Pakistanis or Bangladeshis) in one group. Just like every place, we have different interests, different priorities and different spending options.

NP. That’s in fact a really big group! 6 adults and maybe 10 kids (16 in total)? Versus Westerners traveling in groups of 4 or 5? An elderly relative worked in-house at a bank and the employees used to find it remarkable that certain people brought the entire family (cousins, grandparents etc) for loan applications, whereas the locals would be one or two showing up (at most 2 people, married couple). Some people like big crowds.

8 people (6 adults and 2 kids).. yeah, I agree 16 would be way too much to plan, most likely cruise or a resort is the only choice. My siblings don't have kids yet. We all have separate hotel rooms (part of the trip is AirBnB), separate car rentals (vs mini vans) and we split up sometimes for dinner or activities depending on the interests. I guess since my entire extended family stays in India, I don't see them more than once a couple of years. The choice for me is to visit India and stay at their home (which gets really boring and cramped) or meet at somewhere else where we all can spend quality times with each other for a week or 10 days. It's not that everyone has to stay together and do the exact same things all the time!

Yes, same as us. We did lots of driving trips when we we were not making as much. But now that we can afford it, it’s all bucket list trip in our mid 40’s with our kids.

When we visited the Seychelles, there were wealthy Americans of Indian origin in our hotel.

My wealthy Indian neighbors seem to prefer upscale resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean. And of course returning to India.
