My question is: do I have to pay this (live and registered in Virginia)? And has anyone else dealt with this?

This EXACT thing happened to me with my elderly mother in law. We got a ticket as my husband was escorting her out the baggage claim door and across the street to the car.

So you were in the car and you refused to move when they asked you?

Because my 85 year old MIL was literally in the street with my husband walking to the car. Not at baggage claim. Walking across the street.

You were supposed to drop your husband off, loop around, then come back and pick them up when they are across the street. It’s not a parking spot.

I'm glad that cop was enforcing it. Usually that whole curb is such a disaster--I've been waiting at the curb and my Dh can't even get near me because so many other cars are just double and triple parked there.
Forget a citation, they should have mandatory prison sentences for the filth that do this.

Honestly in the context of airport pick up and drop off, 3 minutes might as well be 10-15 minutes. It's a pretty fast turn around.

As for whether you need to pay it, you did refuse to move, the supervisor sided with the parking officer, and you got a ticket for refusing to move your car. Why wouldn't you pay that ticket? You undeniably did what you were cited for.

And it's National, not Reagan.

I'm as liberal as anyone around, and this is just stupid. It's been Reagan for a couple of decades. Deal with it.

Some provincial old grannies never evolve.

Awww. That’s so sad that you’re too poor to travel.

I'm writing from SF, grannie! Came here direct via Reagan if that helps...

That explains why you don’t know what to call DCA. Maybe if you weren’t so poor and you actually traveled you’d be more familiar with airports around the world. Sorry!

Oh my, the "National" crowd is truly illiterate and apparently quite totalitarian.

You'd do great in North Korea!

If you were an experienced traveler, you’d call it SFO. Sorry!

This is very funny. I am in SF, not in SFO.

Same as you're in DC, not in DCA.

If this is too hard for the National bullies, I'm happy to do a brief clip to explain. Should take me less than OP's famous 3 minutes.

Like I said, if you were an experienced traveler you’d call it SFO. Sorry you haven’t had the chance to travel more.

Crazy OP has attracted the crazy grannies to this thread. Very effective!

You were in the driver’s seat with car running? Couldn’t you say ok and just move up a few feet? Or take a quick lap around? It’s a small loop.

Had you been there since your husband went in?

I am just trying to figure out what happened.

I've seen cars cited there for the driver getting out to help the passenger unload their luggage.

You have to pay the ticket. It'll be filed with the county.

Now you both know. The pickup isn't a park and wait while someone runs in and finds the traveler. It's for people who are already on the curb, ready to go.
