Anonymous wrote:Ha this just shows how different our points of reference can be. I’ve never heard of anyone choosing between Rehoboth and Ocean City. It is typically a choice between Rehoboth and making the trek to Provincetown.

Went this past summer in August and my adult daughters and I vowed to never go back. Paid more for a weekend at the Breakers, a complete dump in need of gutting and reno, than for a weekend at the Jefferson in Richmond, in high season. Many shops and restaurants closed.

The beaches are overcrowded. No space. The boardwalk at night? Same crowd as ocean city. The hotels? Old and in major need of renovations. The houses? So many crap houses with no pools. Dining? Incredibly limited options.
I just don’t get it. Is it that much better than Bethany, Fenwick, North OC? Maybe it was at one point, but I’m not sure it still is.
The beaches close to any major metro are so ridiculously overpriced at this point. Same with Disney. It’s all about supply and demand. Our family has really started to look at the price tag associated with a local brand trip and plan out a much nicer trip elsewhere. We take the same budget and I price out a few options that are more in line with bucket list trips like, Colorado mountains in the summer, Amazon rainforest or London/Paris staying at nicer hotels.

There is no public beach access. There is also no public parking at beach and beach is a no standing zone.
There is your solution. No one has balls to do it.
There are parts of Rehoboth beach that do not allow weekly rentals. RBYCC area by the bay does not. Only allows monthly rentals. That is why we did not buy there.

We arrived on late afternoon on Saturday, and the crowds were beyond crazy. We’ve been going on and off for over 25 years, and Ive never seen it like that. Thankfully it dropped off dramatically on Sunday. But even the trip home on a Tuesday afternoon on Rte 1 was filled with traffic.
As for the beach, we’ve always gone to the beach at Gordon’s Pond. It’s so much nicer.
My spouse has tossed out the idea of maybe retiring there. Financially it makes sense. And I know it’s much calmer in the off-season. But after this weekend, I just can’t see it. Who wants to sit on Rockville Pike, even at the beach?
Last weekend at the beach had insane traffic!!! I am a remote worker that is at the beach for the season and I was ready to head back to the DC suburbs.
