In the states my family of 4 always stay in Embassy Suites, Marriott Residence Inns, Homewood Suites, Marriott or Hilton Vacation Clubs which are basically apartments. Embassy Suites is okay for a short trip, but for longer trips I like the extra space of Residence Inns, Homewood Suites, or a vacation club apartment.

Many Residence Inns and Homewood Suites come with 2 bedroom (1 King or Queen & 2 doubles with a sofa bed)/2 bathroom rooms. The exception is in NYC where we always get adjoining two rooms at a Hilton chain.

When I travel to Europe we either stay in a family suite at a Novotel or get two adjoining rooms at a Hilton or some other local chain. I always get two adjoining rooms when we stay at resorts or go on cruises.

If I can't get an adjoining room, then yes, my teens stay in a room by themselves.

We need two rooms and two bathrooms when we travel most of the time. I have a 15 and a 17 year old boys who are the size of NBA players there is no way they are sharing beds. Everyone sleeps better in their own beds and when there is more privacy, and extra space. Also, we can get ready faster with two bathrooms as supposed to one. A good night's sleep, accommodating everyone's comfort level, and having extra space is worth the money.

4-5 people is not that many people to share one bathroom. We shower in the evening, and getting dressed and brushing teeth does not take very long. We can get up and out of the hotel pretty quickly.

I grew up in a house with 7 people (2 parents, 5 siblings) and we had one bathroom. It can be done. That said, I have only two kids and we usually try to get two rooms when we travel

I have 2 teens, and it just depends. We just did a road trip and some places we all shared one room, and others we got a suite. I factor in cost, number of nights, etc. I also am a huge discount finder/points amasser so I'm usually able to figure out a way to get a cheaper suite. Once we went to Puerto Rico and my husband and I each got Wyndham credit cards, and on the intro bonus we got enough points to get two adjoining rooms at the Rio Mar for free.

Don't know about in your household, but in mine, the kids don't get a vote on whether to spend $3,500 on hotel or $7,000 on hotel.

The last time we had four in a room - with two teenagers- it was pretty miserable. So now we do two rooms.

We generally get two rooms, but it's more for the benefit of the adults than the teens. Also, because everyone (including me!) is grouchy if we don't sleep well, and four in a room is a guarantee of poor sleep.

Not in the US, but we do in other continents because the beds are usually smaller.

Yes most of the time but we don’t do hotels unless we have to.

We just got stuck in DFW last night due to flight delays and got 2 rooms so we could all sleep well for the few hours we could actually sleep. DH is a HUGE snorer. Also sharing a bathroom with that many people sucks.

Moving kids into college next week and we’re going to share one (3 of us). It’s not ideal but it’s one night. Benadryl for all.

I prefer not to, but there have three instances this year where it was actually cheaper for us to get two standard king rooms rooms with 2 people per room v. one room/suite that sleeps 4 people. Presumably the hotels in these situations had there standard double queen rooms sold out.

We camp so 2 tents.
