If everyone could just dial up the cheerfulness at work we wouldn't have half the hostile workplace and harassment lawsuits. At work you deal with a lot more different kinds of people than you see in your everyday life and you have to give everyone grace.

We watch the US swimming team on TV. It drives me nuts how the women swimmers always say "that was so fun", while the guys say "the last length was brutal, really felt the piano drop on me in the last 25 meters".

I think the women's fake positivity started when one swimmer at the 2012 was known for her cheerful personality and the others had to start pretending their races were fun instead of being tough.

If my family or dh or friends did half the shit that my coworkers or employees did, I would scream at them. Or just would stop being friends with them. You don't have that ability with coworkers.

When I give trainings and people ask dumb questions, I welcome dumb questions. If dh asked dumb question after dumb question, I'd tell him he was an idiot and he needed to figure it out himself. Most people are friendlier in public than they are in real life.

Thanks so much, I am. However, narcs have entered my world(you being clearly one of them) and now I see you, that bothers you hence why you bully me thinking I will not stand up to you, but I do. I am nice, not a narc supply.

I had a detailee, who wanted a job from me, call me out for being fake and too friendly. Guess who didn't get the job?!

Earlier in my career, my POC coworkers would all call me "rebecca of sunnbrook farm". It was hurtful, particularly since I was the only white person and only one of a few women.

I'm not being fake at work, but I'm definitely more friendly at work than I am in real life. As a manager I'm just not going to scream and curse people out, so I smile. Being kind is part of my work persona.
