I think it might be because the area is so basic and White middle class, give or take, that even if they don’t have a private school uniform they voluntarily dress uniformly. And then think everywhere else the same thing is happening.

Does your boy hang with a more needy crowd? My son is obsessed with sports and none of his friends would be caught dead in chino pants. That’s what his dad wears to work.

Loose, rolled up chinos with T-shirt and Converse.

Not nerdy. They’re all skaters, into music, and are also on team sports. But they’re not at all obsessed with sports or video games like some cousins and kids we know at this age and in high school; they’re more into skateboards, music, and playing their guitars.

DP. My kid IS nerdy, and loves video games, but also wears loose chinos – because they’re incredibly soft and lighter than jeans in summer. They bear no resemblance to dad pants because they’re rumply and big, but (IMO) looks less sloppy than pj pants or similar. Doesn’t like joggers or athletic shorts/pants unless actively engaged in sporting activity.

Just asked if he wanted anything specific for school and he said “more of the usual.”

That is pretty much all middle school boys wear, or athletic shorts. Or PJ pants with crocs. And hoodies. That is all they wear.

Yes, I'm surprised. My kid wears khaki shorts, period. Jeans when it's cold. Doesn't own anything you've mentioned, and certainly wouldn't wear it to school.

And we're not wealthy or preppy. Solid middle class, currently living in the deep, rural, south.

I get Amazon essentials multi pack of plain tees. They’re exactly what they say on the label - plain tees in multiple colors. My kids don’t care about the brand of plain tees. Also, easily replaceable.

My son will only wear chinos or sweatpants. No cargos or jeans. DC private school kid.

I buy a 10-pack of dry-fit shirts and a bunch of joggers, socks, and underwear from Amazon a couple times a year. Hoodies he chooses as he sees ones he likes, because he is absurdly picky about them.

Shorts that come mid thigh to show off hai “quads” usually black. Athletic dry fit T-shirt’s. A lot of lacrosse T-shirt’s. Cream colors crocs, and white NB sneakers mixed in with Nike dunks. Lots of cologne and ridiculous hair.
