Not all rich people are self absorbed jerks.
Being aware of wasted money is how many "stay rich", especially those who are only in the Top 5%+ (not the top 0.01%). Sure they can afford $5 coffee (heck it's $7 where I live for a 16oz black coffee), but they don't do it daily because they know they can make a weeks worth of better coffee at home for that price

Warren eats the same thing for breakfast everyday, a bacon and egg McMuffin from McDonalds and he only adds cheese if his investments did well overnight in the Asian market. I’m not making this up. I watched a documentary on him in which he participated and they followed him in his old car as he went through the drive through explaining all this. They also live in the same house since forever.
So I’m sure she would have complained over a $4 coffee.
You realize that sound like something other than “thrifty”.
I agree, which is why I also wrote cheap.
The documentary also went into depth about his relationship with his late mother who was abusive. I think a lot of his quirks re money come from that. Anyway he seems super cranky. I worked with him when I was with an Omaha firm and while he was pleasant he had some odd mannerisms. But whatever.
He sound OCD, paranoid and have severe superstitions.
The whole living with a girlfriend while married to another is also bizarre.
I always got the vibe that he and Gates are high functioning on-the-spectrum.
By all accounts the wife was on board. They just didn’t get divorced. People are weird, it doesn’t sound like anyone was done an unforgivable wrong.
So. It’s still not like they are a cute little old couple saving money.
She lived with a married man but is apostles by $4 coffee in a resort that is $2000/night.
It’s not cute or endearing.
He didn’t divorce because he didn’t wanna split his assets, duh.
They are just old rich people who don’t believe in a normal living wage,
If you think these places are charging $4 for coffee because they’re passing it along to a well-paid staff I have a bridge to sell you.

Anonymous wrote:The way society moralizes billionaires spending habits is weird. The Buffets have all this money because they have exploited workers labor for decades, both in the US and in foreign countries. We shouldn’t be applauding the thriftiness of the wealthy when their employees are living on food stamps.
