It sounds like he's in really good hands. Try to get some sleep, OP. Thinking of you and doggo.

They did induce vomiting again tonight. It didn’t work. The vet had two other vets plus the radiologist review the X-rays and they all said it needs to come out before it gets to his intestines. It’s still in his stomach right now. They just took him back to start his anesthesia. I’m heading home and will be back in the AM to see him. Everyone here is so great, they are going to text me pictures later tonight.

Oh and I did get that 6 month interest free credit card, so I’ll worry about that later.

😩

I am so sorry to hear this, OP. Praying everything goes well. Please keep us posted.

Apply for that now to give you options. You can find a no/low interest CC to transfer the balance to later.

Right now just focus on as calm thoughts as possible. Your pupper is going to be fine. I have a friend whose golden had 3 surgeries - socks twice and then a scrunchi.

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry.

I've had my mixed breed pup for 7 years and adopted a 4-yr old toy poodle several months ago. I've never purchased pet insurance, and have had more than one trip like yours to the emergency vet with my mixed breed; fortunately never needing surgery. Your post has inspired me -- I think I may finally get that pet insurance.

Again, I'm really sorry. Pet ownership is the best thing in the world, but it can be damned difficult and expensive.

I’m so sorry for you and your poor dog. Best wishes for the surgery to go well and for a quick recovery.

Well we are back now and waiting for his X-ray results. Again. I’ve kind of come to terms with the fact that they are probably going to tell me he needs surgery. Which still has me feeling nauseous. And now I’ve moved on to worrying about if everything will go well during surgery and how the heck do I take care of him afterwards. I just overheard the doctor telling a man about other low cost options for him to call tomorrow morning for his cat that needs surgery. I’ll be asking about that!

I appreciate everyone that’s been encouraging and wishing us well. And especially those that told me to get him seen ASAP!

If she says he doesn’t need surgery I’ll consider myself extremely lucky. I should know in about an hour. Interestingly, the bet who is here now said she would not recommend endoscopy for him. She’s done it on 3 dogs like him and it’s never worked and each time they ended up in surgery to remove the item.

Praying your pooch won’t need surgery.

Can I get pet insurance today to cover a possible surgery (minus a deductible of course) , or is that not how this works?

Pet insurance will not cover a preexisting condition, and his veterinary records already document this issue, so it won’t be covered. I’m sorry. Will the vet work with a payment plan? If not, you could apply for a new credit card with no interest for the first 6 months. That would at least give you some time to save money while making minimum payments without the debt further snowballing. Maybe set up a Go Fund Me?

My lab ate several cobs once. Vomited them up later, intact.

Glad he's doing ok! +1 to the suggestion for pet insurance. We have a lab that will eat anything and has had to go to the ER vet a couple times because of that. Our sick-care-only pet insurance has paid for itself a couple times over.
