The whole thing is sad. The guy who was shot attended the same high school my child attends. Of course, no one can tell the future, but their experiences seem so far apart based on the photo of the guy holding a gun. I don't know what can be done to change things.

I mean yes, it is true that not everyone votes. Because some people are children, or immigrants, or poor/working/not in a position to take time to vote.

I promise you the blue-haired denizens of...that facebook group I am definitely blocked from and right now cannot remember the name of... are not the missing turnout voters.

While I disagree with some of it, particularly him being consistent (he ran scared from adult housing on school grounds after being all for it for months) and not having much influence over the schools, I agree that what he wants is what Alexandrians want.

And while the ship has sailed on him running for state wide office or congress, he will be mayor for as long as he wants.

A lot of good that has done the Black community in Alexandria. The school seems less safe since the name change, and certainly the increase in the number of Black victims of violent crime in the City would lead one to think many folks were better off with the Appomattox Statue still standing. The 6 homicides in 2022 equal the TOTAL homicides in the City of Alexandria from 2019, 2020 and 2021. Now, we are at 5 homicides less than half-way through the year. I've lived here for more than 45 years, and I cannot remember the entire City being in such a state. We used to worry about the Berg only. Now violent crime is seeping into all neighborhoods. The mayor can blame Covid all he wants, but this is 100% on the City's leadership - or lack thereof.

+1 Same. 32+ years. We are leaving are you? It's only going to get worse not better and if you wait any longer you won't be able to sell your house. Look at the prices in City of Alexandria for single family homes, they're dropping rapidly. Investors are pulling out. It's a freaking mess.
