Nope. I vote straight D and always have. Drive a fuel efficient car and frankly don’t leave the house that often and when I do the drives are close. Conserve water and electricity too. Recycle. And beyond that I don’t sit around hand wringing and worrying about the end times I can’t control.

Being in wildfire smoke air for the day is like smoking 3-11 cigarettes (in that day).

Not great but also like, people can smoke cigarettes regularly for years and after 10 years of quitting their lungs look good! I'm not saying everyone should smoke for 10 years, or that cigarettes are harmless, but smoking for two days isn't going to kill you.

I feel for people in California who have to live with this level of air pollution on a regular basis but seriously if you are freaking out about some wildfire smoke for the two days every few years it impacts you you are being incredibly melodramatic. These things cause issues when you have sustained exposure. Chillax.

That's a common sense question - and yes wildfire smoke is significantly worse. For one, people typically spend an hour or two around a campfire, and the smoke quickly dissipates. Wildfire smoke, on the other hand, comes in humungous plumes and can linger for days or weeks. Wildfires smoke also contains much more pollution/toxic chemicals. It's not just breathing in burning wood but also pollutants from buildings and other toxins. It's distressing that this is now becoming part of life on the East Coast too.

Maybe people should stop driving giant gas guzzlers?

I work in an elementary school and the first go-round when school was still in session, I had kids in my classroom with red watery eyes, rubbing their eyes endlessly, and kids with asthma coughing their lungs out. Can kids have a 504 to stay in from recess on orange and red days if they need it?

MCPS already kept them all in for recess. Also cancelled outdoor field trips and other end of year activities.

Aren't Republicans the ones who want to go back to less stringent emissions controls on cars? Every now and then I pass an old car with historic plates and it smells HORRIBLE. I remember when all cars smelled like that. SO SO GLAD there are emissions controls on cars now. But hey, if it means some tiny few strangers can reap massive amounts of profits, then by all means let's repeal the laws and go back to the '70s.
