20 year DC resident here. You realize these policies have absolutely ZERO to do with Trump administration and everything to do with City Council, right?
I read that as many as 60% of criminal cases are just dropped by the USAO. That has nothing to do with DC Council.
But it may have a lot to do with DC having a crime lab that isn't even certified. Until Bowser gets that house in order, I won't find her credible on crime. She would rather blame Council than get the lab working.
It also has a ton to do with MPD losing all trust from their community. Basically any cases that rely on officer testimony and don't have undeniable video evidence are not going to trial because nobody believes anything cops say anymore.

Nope. The DOJ federal prosecutors make the decision to file charges or decides to "no paper." Most arrests by MPD are adults, not kids. The only area where DC has discretion is if a minor was arrested; then its up to our elected AG.
Anyone caught with a gun and is a felon is looking at mandatory minimum of one year in jail. These are getting no-papered all the time.

I don't understand why MPD is never "walking the beat," getting to know residents on the streets, making their presence known. Isn't that community policing 101?
If MPD is out-of-sight-out-of-mind to me as a law-abiding citizen, imagine the perception to a criminal.
