My kid was in mcps stem magnet. He took the highest math, science, comp sci, language and humanities he could at HS like plenty of his peers. He filled up his schedule with as many electives as he could at school because they were really good offerings and he had taken ap calc bc as a sophomore. CS and Physics at UMD. Very happy at UMD. Lots of opportunities and internships.

No. Most high schools don't offer linear. If anything the admissions officer will check the highest level math classes offered and the applicant's high school and whether or not the applicant took said classes

Calc BC with 5s in 10th grade. AP stats with 5 in 11th along with Linear Algebra. MVC/Vector Calculus in 12th. Heading to UMd. Waitlist at Ivy / T10.

OP - you are trying to make sense of something that makes no sense. Let your kid take what they feel comfortable with.

grade inflation makes those grades almost meaningless. I would imagine colleges look at the AP exam scores, as well as grades.

In MCPS, a student can turn in assignments late and get full credit; do retakes and exam corrections to get a higher grade. I know some kids cheat on assignments and tests. Grades have almost become meaningless here.


Sure... grade inflation all they way through to Calculus BC, MVC, LA, etc. And endless, endless retakes

Speaks to the fact that the applicant really likes math and is willing to put in extra effort to learn.

Wow, FCPS kids are so lucky. I am from another district and I had to self-study for AP Statistics and AP Calc AB was the highest level offered, and a lot of kids didn't pass the exam.

Majored in Stats in college.
