It is beautiful but very small. Less than 1,000 students. In the 80s they eliminated the traditional letter grading system. I doubt that's still true but I remember it hurting the reputation.

Why ?

The list has nothing to do with either Hampshire or Bennington Colleges. I have no idea why that poster made & posted the long list of schools.

In 2019, Bennington College received a $50 million federal government loan package which enabled it to stay afloat. Two other Vermont colleges which received smaller bailout loan packages failed & closed already.

Why was that long list posted ?

It’s schools far worse off than Bennington or Hampshire that are still open.

Based on what facts or factors ?

After 2025, the number of US high school grads will decline. If we experience a recession soon, many small private colleges will shut down.

Stupid list without accompanying facts or factors indicating financial distress.

Yes, they'll head back to what? 2010 numbers. These schools were operating then, it's going to be okay.

+1 They have also been predicting the demographics for some time. I do think some regional LACs, small universities, niche colleges--e.g. arts, culinary, vocational-- and some community colleges will close, I don't think many--or any--of the nationally ranked LACs larger than 1000 students will close anytime soon. The personalized, experiential focus may be even more needed as AI takes over so many vocations--a smaller college that is used to adapting to individual students might work out better. We'll see!
