May I ask if he submitted scores in 1300s to UMD? I’m trying to figure out if that’s what leads to spring start. Wondering if my junior should go TO if doesn’t break 1400.
No. 1550 but weak ECs and a couple Cs during covid.
Thank you! There was also a rumor on here about not getting in if any Cs. You’ve at least debunked that as to spring admission. Congrats on great options!
dp.. I wonder if UMD gave students a pass during covid, so for future admits, they won't be as generous.

Just this week she's decided she's worried about choosing the "lower ranked" school, even though it's likely the better fit. I'm sure a lot of it is just freaking out about the future, but it's getting ridiculous. Please tell me I'm not the only one dealing with this right now.

tell us where she’s deciding between, and I’m sure we can figure out where she should go!!!
OP here - choices are UMD and Towson.
Is the tuition difference too difficult to afford? If you can afford it I would recommend UMD instead
+1 why is Towson a better fit?
Due to circumstances (not aid), UMD is actually cheaper, but not so much as to be an issue either way. DD's personality is not a go-getter type, and it seems like Towson is probably a bit easier to navigate (in every way). I think she's capable of being successful at UMD, but whether she would really be able to handle it could go either way.
I'd recommend trying Maryland and if it doesn't work out, transfer. Remind her of all the opportunities Maryland has to offer.

Wake Forest and Davidson
Anonymous wrote:Coming down to the wire here with choice between Davidson and UVA out of state (in also at UMD in state but kid isn't feeling it). With generous financial aid, Davidson is only about $5k per year more than UVA. Sporty kid wants to study economics. His best friend is going to UVA but our son liked Davidson more before he learned where his bestie was going. Husband wants him to stay closer and save $5k/yr but I'm thinking he'll do better in a smaller school environment with much more personalized attention from profs and smaller classes. To me, Davidson academically is every much the equal at the very least to UVA but hubby disagrees. We're road tripping to Charlottesville this weekend to take one last look.
