Field hockey is a very fun sport that requires, as players advance, real athleticism, skill, game IQ. For those who don't know the sport, there's a misperception that short players have an advantage, or at least, don't have the disadvantage as in orther sports. Unfortunately, like most other sports, height only helps in field hockey. There is a lot of reaching for the ball, and being taller and bigger is just better. With that said, it doesn't pose as big a disadvantage for average height girls as other sports do, so if she has any interest, she should go for it. My 5' 4" DD will being playing for a D1 school beginning next fall, but she plays as if she doesn't know how short she is. That's the key.
