I have a very vivid recollection of seeing Pulp Fiction there in 1994. I had just moved to DC for my first post college job. I think if that every time I go by there.

Correct.

It really surprised me when brickskeller closed — they were really unique and it was always crowded. And it’s not like fancy beer has gone out of favor — I think it’s more popular now than it was 30 years ago.

A friend worked there. It was due to ownership/management not really knowing how to run such a business. The demand was there, but they failed when it came to execution.

It was a total mess 20 years ago, they NEVER had anything in stock. I would always give the server my top 3 beers, and 9 times out of 10, she would STILL have to come back to get another order because they were all out of stock.

I once got served a cooked burger that somehow had a patty that was wrapped in Saran Wrap at the Brickskeller. Pretty sure it closed soon after. But it was such a cool idea for its time, even if the beer menu was in large part fiction.

OMG!

I thought it was bad when I ordered a pizza there and received a microwaved pita bread, covered with ketchup, and a slice of what tasted like American cheese. It was room temperature when it arrived.

For anyone who remembers Food for Thought, where I spent a lot time in my 20s, there’s a reincarnation of it inside Black Cat on 14th Street and even a Facebook page for it.

RIP to your dad. This made me miss my own dad, who died a year ago. We lived a nice Italian restaurant. RIP dad.

Also rip Johnnys Half Shell!

All I can think of when I think of AV is that Scalia was a regular. 😂

AV and Galileo. Remember when Roberto Donna was such a huge thing in the DC Restaurant scene?

Yes! We used to go to his ayce pasta place and if parents were in town we’d try to go to Galileo. Too bad he never paid his taxes.

The French place I remember was in georgeotwn and was something simple like Le Bistro or something. I don’t remember if it was in a standalone building though.

Was it Trattu?

I LOVED Trattu! So romantic!

Back in the day the locals called DuPont Circle the “fruit loop.” How times have changed.

Does anyone else miss the coffee shops?

Are there still good non-chain coffee shops to hang out in?

This is a fun topic. Long shot, but does anyone remember Mr. Egan’s? It was just south of the circle. My dad worked at a building on DuPont Circle and used to take us to lunch at Mr. Evan’s in the late 80s when I was a kid. It was a really dark, divey place that had a free popcorn machine and booths and stuff like burgers and sandwiches. I remember Mr. Egan being really nice to my sister and me.
