Duke isn’t top 20 in so many disciplines it begs the question; why is Duke so highly ranked and considered top ten?

In our case, the head says Duke, the heart says Cornell for CS.

The CS/Stem buildings at Cornell felt so modern and cutting edge. Duke was beautiful but the CS building and its vibe felt old and dreary.

Also somehow the professors and the students we interacted at Cornell were very friendly.

But so many things at Duke are easier--the location, the accessibility, the school spirit....

Cornell

At the undergraduate level, department reputation doesn't matter as much as University reputation. So even though Cornel has a stronger CS department hands down, I would go with Duke for the following reasons

1) Higher grade inflation, preserves option for grad studies
2) Better weather
3) Easier to get to than Ithaca
4) Slightly better MBA program, in case that option is interesting later. They may give preference to their alum

Cornell has built several dorms recently which have A/C. Others have ceiling fans. Its upstate NY so it is only an issue in the beginning of the school year.

Positive. DD lives in RBG Hall and it has AC. One of the older Freshman dorms already had it and all the new dorms on North do... It is really not too needed up there though. No big deal.

Just checked and confirmed that Cornell's first-year residence halls have no A/C.

How did you check? My kid is a freshman at Cornell. Some dorms don’t have a/c (like Donlon), the new dorms do have a/c (like RBG). Trust me, my kid complains that most of the other freshman have a/c and they’re sweating in Donlon.

I don't know if RBG is still open or not for freshman because it has no Link for details on the website (https://scl.cornell.edu/residential-life/housing/campus-housing/first-year-undergraduates-campus-housing).Others 8 hall linked details shows no AC
