People will give you the benefit of the doubt. Just say "I'm sorry ,I didn't know" and remove the post. This doesn't appear to be the case. I glad my DD and classmates took a stand. Well then explain what happened. Did the kids intend for it to be racist or offensive then refuse to take it down? Or did they post a consensual video with a silly song and then get accused of racism? Is the history of the song known in teen circles? Someone opened up a discussion on a board where it’s obvious that many people do not have kids at Walls and don’t know what happened. Why discuss if you’re not actually going to discuss?

Not OP...Because only the involved parties actually know everything. There are privacy laws you know. Frankly, it's really only their business.

When kids are doing walkouts, letters going out to all parents, rumors spread online- then yes, people discussing it should have to provide more facts.

Ideally what would happen is that Walls admins would resolve in a fair way, but that’s not going to happen.

Nope, they only have to talk to the parents involved. How do you know what the Walls admin did or didn't do?

There’s zero basis to make that accusation, and I hope these kids’ parents get lawyers to fight the false accusation of racism.

The song is frequently played at baseball games to this day. It’s entirely possible that there is some movement to tag it as offensive in retrospect but zero evidence that it was a racist act here.

And of course, making this incident into a circus does the exact opposite of what’s intended. If people genuinely take offense at the song now, then what should happen is education about it to change norms. Not a witch hunt with extreme consequences- no doubt some people want to threaten these kids with explusion, loss of college admissions, etc.

And I hope that any parents of the accused who decide to lawyer up over this incident are bankrupted in the process. Raise your children better and stop trying to defend their poor behavior!

That's DCUM's answer to everything BUT never pursues anything. No reason to involve a lawyer. No identities have been released and no privacy laws broken. The punishment is what it is and if you wanna fight, go for it. I doubt that a family wants to go thru the "discovery" process? That alone could be devastating-all media posts are fair game! Just apologize, learn, and listen to others.

Exactly! Legal discovery will have these parents wishing they didn’t open Pandora’s Box.

Exactly. There was a walkout and these kids are being pegged as racists on the internet despite people not actually knowing the facts? Come on

right - like you wouldn’t defend your child from expulsion based on a false accusation?

You assume the accusation is false. I do not.

If the accusation is proven to be true, I hope the parents who enable/defend this behavior are bankrupted in the process. That’s after their little Klan Kids are booted from Walls.

Do you have any basis in fact for this? Other than your clear animus against white families.

Your DD joined a witch hunt mob for her own self aggrandizement - thereby making it much harder to actually handle these incidents in an age-appropriate and productive way. Also there’s no evidence that the kids refused to delete the Tiktok.

As expected..So a peaceful walkout is a witch hunt according to "you people". I guess is like Kyle Rittenhouse was taking a Sunday stroll. I'd love to meet in person to handle this in much more adult and age-appropriate fashion. Pick the time and place....

wow, so threatening violence now? that’s a bit much.

LOL...So coffee or a drink is violence. Too easy...

So that meant coffee? Cool.

Exactly this - if the students will be "cancelled" (expulsion, college offers rescinded, etc.) then the defense needs to be strong, but if the students will be "disciplined" along the lines of having to write a paper about why the lyrics are offensive, make a public apology and LEARN from their stupidity, THEN there won't be such a push-back.

I mean yes, “apologize, listen and learn” is the ideal result. But you can’t get there when extreme threats are on the table - like expulsion and loss of college opportunities, and open rumors about “racist” kids. If you want the defense dialed down then the consequences have to be dialed down as well.
