You can just tell the school you are withdrawing from that you got off the waitlist at the other school. How would they know you were in the entire time?

I don’t think school admins have the time to be this petty. They know they are a wide variety of reasons that kids might not enroll even after the deposit/contract (still waiting to hear from other schools, moves, health/finance changes, etc). That’s why they take a deposit. I think it’s obnoxious to string schools along and I’m sure the schools would rather folks didn’t, but I also don’t think it’s worth their time to try to track these people down.

That’s really terrible IMO. kids are waiting to get off of the waitlist. You are taking up a spot. We waiting until the last minute to tell our school our decision but don’t hold your spot. That’s really unfair.

So for those who gave deposits to multiple schools - how do you withdraw "in writing" as required by the enrollment agreement? Is e-mail sufficient? Certified mail? Nobody wants to be on the hook for two tuitions!

Eh, it's fine. In the scheme of things this is not a big deal and i doubt it happens enough to be a thing.

Some schools, especially the large Catholics, have their shadow days fill up quickly, so I suppose some folks might not have a chance to shadow before decision deadlines, but other than that scenario I’ve never heard of it either.
