This sounds like a lot of talking points without much evidence to back them up. Our health care is structured to prefer OBGYN and hospital care, so you are comparing apples to oranges. And hypertension doesn't always equal pre-eclampsia and you can get pre-eclampsia even if you have never had hypertension. As far as Americans being less healthier - correct. And our healthcare establishment and our infrastructure do little to assist in that regard. It's not exactly a slam dunk to admit that out healthcare is ineffective, which leads to a less healthy population, and therefore of course our maternal mortality rate is the highest of all developed countries.

There are risks with ANY medical procedure. Childbirth is one of those. Especially when the mother has underlying medical conditions, is obese, or has ignored prenatal care check ups.
It is tragic when a woman dies during childbirth, or shortly thereafter. A baby is left without a mother and if she is married, a spouse without a partner. And, if she has any other children they are without a mother as well.
Nobody "lets" it happen.
And, despite the risks, millions of women give birth every year. And will continue to do so. The alternative is not having children at all. Which would mean the end of the human race.
Is this what you want?
You don't think a conscious choice to not provide healthcare that we know will prevent these deaths is indeed "letting" women die in childbirth. Because I sure do. It's a choice.

No, the actual truth is that poverty and systemic racism are behind all the things you chalk up as the causes.

Blaming the expectant mother. Of course.
I am not blaming the mother. I am stating facts. Science. It is a fact that underlying medical conditions, obesity, and lack of proper prenatal care lead to bad outcomes.
Are you unaware of these facts?
In rural areas, a woman who might or might not have reliable transportation may have to travel 100 miles each way to get pre-natal care. Which is only available 9-5, the hours she works. She misses work for an MD visit, she doesn’t eat. Are you unaware of these facts?

FU. I had a dear friend die in childbirth. Only 28. Was not obese. Did not miss any prenatal checkups. Had no underlying health risks.
Any process that could kill you should not be forced on you. Yes women can voluntarily agree to undergo it. But the state has no right to force you to take it on.
Sorry your friend died. Was pregnancy forced on her?
If you don't want to give birth, don't get pregnant.

Oh but we need to force every woman to bear children regardless of whether or not she dies, according to the GOP
PP here, politicians need to stay out of it and leave medical decisions up to a patient and her doctor. There are situations where a mother's life is potentially as risk and doctors should never feel they are unable to act because of a law. Infection is no joke for example and can lead to sepsis and death if not treated in a timely manner.
