Excluded from STEAM, however, has been the critically important component of physical fitness. Science itself has repeatedly demonstrated the causal relationship to physical activity and brain function.
We can all agree, therefore, on the inclusion of “S” for sports, to create S-STEAM.
What a load of performative, inclusive crap.
What exactly is wrong with being more inclusive?
Are you a special ed parent? Athletics and art are hobbies that maybe you can make a YouTube career out of. Kidding aside, these are niche, ancillary skills that a STEM subject may employ.
This is old. I’m glad to see STEAM didn’t work, it was a really dumb idea. And people do make a living in the arts. Science, math, all that can be taught but with the arts you have to have a real talent that is very rare.
There’s a MAGA war on inclusion, but that ends 3.5 years from now (maybe as soon as the midterms).
After the end of maga, inclusion will come roaring back 110% and so will STEAM and S-STEAM.
I don’t understand how including art is inclusion? Can someone explain?

Why shouldn’t S-STEAM education be inclusive of every child?
You can have it. As long as you separate the kids according to intelligence so that everyone isn't in the same class and learning level. Inclusive shouldn't mean that you unable everyone so that they learn at the same speed and level as the dumbest kid. Just like how they dumbed down entire gym classes because some kids are obese or physically disabled. Or how many music and art classes are pathetic because some kids just suck at music and art because they're too lazy or adhd.

Can we just go back to stem?
Yes, this whole Steam thing is dumb. People are trying to pretend like art some rigorous subject when it is not.

Anonymous wrote:Some local school districts have already taken the basic step of dropping the outdated “STEM” and have been inclusive by adding an A for Arts. FCPS is one of them.

Both sports and arts are very meaningful and are “value added” subjects which help diversify our children’s education.
