Hate to break it to you not at all one or even of of just a few posters here. People don’t hate him or obsess, but have huge contempt for his incompetence and active harm to the QoL and lack of empathy for dead teens and others.
You don’t come back from contempt.
But why Charles Allen? What are the other council members doing? This seems like something produced, like, we'll get this rich white part of the city riled up and take it! So that the powerful people don't have to worry about our liberal political power here. IDK, it makes me suspicious, that Charles Allen, of all people, is to blame for carjackings and gun violence. I hate the crime too, but CA has some, not a lot, influence on what the city does about violence.
THIS EVENT HAPPENED IN HIS WARD. That's why he is being brought up on this thread. He's not being randomly singled out. We are his constituents and we are complaining about our council member's response to crime that is happening outside our homes. I'm not talking about other council members because (1) they don't represent my ward, and (2) this crime didn't happen in their wards.
And he chaired the committee that wrote the stupid crime bill that has blown up into a giant clusterf--k on a national stage over the last month. "CA has some, not a lot, of influence on what the city does about violence." Are you freaking kidding me?
I literally tbink you are a Fox News freakazoid.

BUT I do not understand the people saying "what's he supposed to do?" He has vocally advocated for reductions in the very MDP investigating this horrible event, reduced sentencing for many of the very crimes people in Ward 6 are upset about, and argued in favor of unproven alternatives to more policing and stiffer penalties as ways to curb violence. You can't have it both ways. He's been vocal FOR YEARS on crime issues, pretty much all in the same direction, and then when we see awful crime on the Hill, you want to say "well what could he possibly have done, he's just a council member, blame the mayor."
Nope. If CA wants to make himself a major policymaker on criminal justice issues in DC when it allows him to cater to certain activist groups and placate certain constituents, he doesn't then get to pretend that he has no power at all over the issue when other constituents who are being directly impacted by violent crime call for him to take action. He also doesn't get to blame the mayor and the police chief for crimes in his ward without explaining exactly how they are to blame.
Otherwise it's just buck passing. Personally, I dislike Bowser but I think one of the primary causes of the current crime wave was prolonged school closures that left too many of our young people on their own for too long, leading to alarming criminality among very young people in the city. At least Bowser seemed invested in reopening schools sooner. Just as a for instance.
Show me.
Show you what? Who the heck are you? I don't owe you anything. If you disagree with me, state your disagreement. It's not my job to make your arguments for you.

I think this kind of sandbox argument works amongst the CA followers. Guess what, doesn’t work on the adults.
Not one person has offered an argument that actually defends Allen's stance on crime in this thread, beyond "haha Charles Allen doesn't control crime on the interstate highway system, haha murder is funny to me."
It's honestly the glibness of some of these comments that pisses me off most. This was a horrible violent event that resulted in multiple deaths and terrified neighbors. And people in this thread are making snide remarks about it to CA's constituents who are genuinely afraid and sick and tired this violence. It's beyond disrespectful. I care about this $hit because my kids live here and I don't want a bullet flying through their bedroom window while their sleeping. It's not a joke.
