For my family it’s simply because it’s legal there, and it is not legal here.
Why does that matter? It would be 100% a victimless crime.
Not really. It blurs the line. Your kid thinks the parents condone underage drinking (because they do while at dinner at home). It's naïve to think they will simply follow your rule to drink safely at home and no where else. Or to only drink *one* beer/glass of wine.

I must also inform you. In many countries, no alcohol is allowed at all. Many many counties.
You must travel the world, and then you will see.

Absolutely -- and more than one drink. We did this in Italy during a family pizza making class that was really good, with the wine they provided, and the other parents (who were not American) complimented us on our parenting style

We had a ton of fun in Spain with our kids drinking pitchers of Sangria. The pitcher only gave us each one glass, but we did it two nights of our trip: the first night and the last. It was so much fun, but my teens were older (17 and almost 19).

Son tasted some wine once and spat it out. Thought it horrible. Was about 12. Haven’t expressed interest since.
