You always have to think of the nicknames, because it is a long name. People tend to shorten their names as they get older. Jonathan becomes Jon, Samantha becomes Sam, and on and on. Only mom calls me Samantha...

My kids are grown, just my two cents.

Side rant-what is dcum's obsession with nicknames. I have a long name and no one has ever called me by anything other than my full name.

Nicknames are a sign of affection between people and have been around long before DCUM. Also, in the past if you have many generations of "Mary" and "John" you need a nn to distinguish whom you are talking about. Not everything is about you, Elizabeth!

Wow, put down the wine glass. Hard to imagine anyone having affection for you with your anger issues.

What do old generations of Mary and John have to do with current use of nicknames. People use a wider variety of names now so by your logic nicknames would be less common.

Also, Elizabeth isn't a very good insults since there are a ton of nicknames for that name.

The nickname she goes by is "Mera" which I think is also cute.

I think of Burgess Meredith and then of a trashy relative.

I love it! I know a little girl Meredith who goes by Meredith (no nickname). It's fun and sophisticated IMO.
