lived in McLean for 30 years and don't understand who runs the place and why are they so against every idea and how are they still alive? Identify yourselves!

took 15 yr old DS to Best Buns? (next to matchbox) this weekend for takeout after morning event. $32 for a plain burger, fries & milkshake. Saw 2 cute young families and and older couple - so that was nice.

I really hate to tell you this, but even my seventeen year old DD thinks Matchbox quality is pretty poor.

I really hate to tell you this, but you're likely raising a brat.

No, she is raising a smart kid with taste and an understanding of value. Matchbox has mediocre food at insanely ridiculous prices.

honestly, went there this past weekend and it was not good. definitely not worth the price.

Both my DH and I grew up in McLean and still live in McLean (we are the ultimate townies!) and that place along with Rocco’s and pulcinella are the most disgusting places in all of northern Virginia. I’d rather eat a crunch strap supreme from Taco Bell that eat that garbage.

Problem with McLean? Old people and Tyson’s is so close.

WTF. North Arlington is home to the entire orange line corridor. It is the opposite of a restaurant wasteland.

Now if by "North Arlington" you mean the spots only North of Langston Blvd than yeah, you knew what you were buying when you moved in, no?

So it has good restaurants because it is “home to the orange line corridor?” I lived there for 10 years, tried so many places, was always disappointed, and confirm that it is indeed a restaurant wasteland. The upside is that living there made me a better cook.

Kazan is wonderful. Miss Oggi’s.

Mostly agree though that McLean needs an overall and those areas turned into charming old town Main Street vibe. It’s pretty ugly and 60s right now.

If you go into the traditional "town" portions of both of those areas, there is just nothing even reasonably decent there. Loose strip malls that look like crap with a Capital One Bank, CVS, Sherwin Williams, and "ye olde hair cuttery." Boomer heaven. Tysons is nice though - actual good restaurants and shopping these days

Vienna and McLean both have lots of kids and lots of people in their late 30s on up, though McLean skews older because it's more expensive. Neither has a lot of people between 18-35, so they aren't trying to compete with Arlington in terms of bars and restaurants (though Tysons is trying to start to do so in spots).

As long as there are a few nice places people can go to, and good grocery stores, people in Vienna and McLean will be happy. Of course, you're full of crap when you say there is "nothing even reasonably decent" in either place, but for the most part people are too satisfied with their lives there to bother arguing with you.

Maple Avenue (and Church St) have better options than downtown McLean.
