This. I usually open my door during daylight hours whether I'm alone or other people are home. I can take care of myself. After dark I don't open it unless I'm expecting someone.

I used to live in a gated community manned by a guard. No surprises about who would be at your door unless it was a neighbor. I liked that better than now where I get people soliciting at my door all the time.

I never open the front door unless I'm expecting someone or unless I can see that it's a neighbor/friend/someone we know.

Okay, but he didn't shove you into your house or have nefarious intent. So what dreadful recent experience are you referring to? I feel like this lends credence to the argument that most people who knock at your door, including strangers, are not there to harm you.
It was a learning experience on not being complacent in feeling safe.

Never, unless I’m expecting someone.
With the Ring doorbell, you don’t even need to be near the door let alone open it.
I check the camera to see who is there and if they’re not expected, back to what I was doing.

I never open the door for someone I don't know and have told my kids the same thing. DH might open it sometimes, but even he rarely opens the door if we are not expecting anyone. We have a Ring anyway, so we can see if it's someone we know.

I will open the door. People are not knocking if they are there to murder you. The worst thing that will happen is a pushy sales thing which is actually a scam. Oh well. At least they are working hard for their $10 in cash.
