My kiddo is supposed to be in a waitpool, but just got a rejection of the “level 1” appeal that was initiated by opting to stay in the waitpool. No mention of the waitpool in the rejection, so we are now thoroughly confused. Did they kick the kid out of the waitpool? Private school looking better and better. This entire process seems bizarre.

NP - I’m genuinely curious, too.
Not the PP, but I get this. Applications were submitted back in October. The DC may have been very interested back then, but changed their mind for any one of a zillion reasons in the intervening months.
But these programs are all very different. It may be a very small number of kids admitted to so many dissimilar magnet programs, it’s hard to have a sense of how common it is.

Kid was admitted to Blair SMCS, Blair CAP, Wheaton engineering, Wheaton biomedical, RMIB, and the regional IB program. MAP-M was 274, MAP-R was 262. My take is that the essay and the other prompts were very important.

I’m the PP who shared scores. The only time my kid took COGAT they also scored in the 99th percentile for all three sections. Not sure how or why that’s relevant here though. That was three years ago.
For private school kids who didn't take the MAP. They can take CogAT or a bunch of other tests (SSAT, OLSAT, WISC, some others)

And why are you sharing that here? cOGAT hasn’t been used in MCPS since 2019-2020.

Yes. It probably offset the B in English one quarter, for CAP at least. I don’t think the STEM based schools even saw the MAP-R.
