One of the top schools on my kid’s list, despite the strange name

It is reasonably priced even for out of staters and has good programs in the fields she is interested in

To be honest, the strange name is part of the appeal

It is in such a gross part of PA though!!! Has she toured it?

What is wrong with Hamilton?

Sounds traditional, easy to pronounce…

Not great:

The Cooper Union
Any school with the word "Tech" in it (even Cal Tech).

I am not saying these are not outstanding schools, I just don't like the names.

Actual bad names:
Salisbury State
Skidmore
Colgate
Grinnel
Goucher

Towson State and Salisbury State are now Towson University and Salisbury University. It does make the latter much better. Frostburg State is still Frostburg State, which I don’t understand.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland sounds religious when it’s not.

Names that are so bad they are actually great:

Harvey Mudd
Transylvania U
Colorado School of Mines

Names that sound classy:

Cambridge
Oxford
Georgetown
Notre Dame
Vanderbilt

I went to Notre Dame, and everyone pronounced it "Note-er Daym." Don't know if that makes it more classy or not.

Indiana: the worst state name -- so named because Indians once lived there. I kid you not

This reminds me of a tasteless joke from years ago, when r Charles and Diana got married. Where did Charles go for his honeymoon? Indiana!
