Sidwell sends acceptance, rejection, and waitlist letters

Do all/most other schools send acceptance and waitlist only and NO rejections?

I think plenty of schools have true rejections.

My kid was rejected at Bullis for middle.

wait, Bullis rejects kids?

Yes. Obviously, they cannot offer financially to everybody. The question is, do they send out rejections or do they just put everyone on a waitlist who does not get accepted?

I felt I was pretty clear - we were notified of rejection on decision day.

My kid’s school did a bunch of games with the kids that were a well thought out combo of listening skills, athletics and problem solving. The games involved kids “falling out” in a Simon says kind of way if they failed in some aspect. My kid won each round and at pick up one of the admissions folks noted they were very happy with the visit. When I asked my kid about the day on the way home they explained what they had done and I asked when they went out in the games. They said they won each time. At that point the admissions person’s comments made me think things would go well. They did. Ironically, a parent from a “feeder” school saw us at drop off and, with some snark, said kids from your school don’t get in here. Hers didn’t but ours did.

Same. After DS's interview at the boarding school I attended, the AD met with DH and me and told us all the reasons DS would thrive at the school and was a great fit...and he got WL'd.

Wtf? This is an outrage!

Told flat out last year for 9th at a school where we were a sibling legacy. Otherwise, wouldn’t try to read signs.

Not PP but yes Billis rejects. It's a jealousy thing for parents who say they don't.

I seriously doubt your neighbor said that about her children. And I actually seriously doubt that you have children from your comment because he would not have made up something so ridiculous.
PP here . sorry Did not meant to relay jealousy , negativity, or anything. I truly didn't know. My neighbor just had their kids start there and basically said its pay to play there.. as in, if you can afford tuition you're in.

Incredible. So in essence you were being told Sidwell would offer a spot if your child would accept and let them know in advance?

Yes that was my understanding, and when I said GDS was her first choice the HOS said that she might want to rethink her order. She was happy at Holton. She probably would have been just as happy at Sidwell. I don't think she would have been happy at GDS.

Just FYI, our school principal asked us the same when we applied. They wanted us to rate the schools and declare our first choice. I think it’s very possible that Sidwell would have rejected/waitlisted her. They asked my DD the same thing and she was waitlisted. We applied to Sidwell beauvoir and Maret

Where did she end up?

Yes, his has happened to us. With the first child it was a tad alarming, but by the third kid we really enjoyed the candles, the chants, etc.

What about that raven though? That was a little unnerving.

omg, you got the raven??? I thought that was a myth.

I would love to know which school this is. I am guessing STA or NCS? It’s not Sidwell or GDS.

We could tell you, but then we’d have to kill you.

Lol- I was waiting for this.

When the admissions committee sits down to review applicants, they realize they love 8 white females who live in NWDC and attended x school/preschool and they only have room for 4 applicants who fit this profile.

When does not occur? I meet at what point are they sitting down and talking amongst each other about specific applicants?

The most reliable signs of acceptance are when they wag their tail, lick your hand and roll over so you can rub their belly.
