Subject: HSPT Scores
So folks want minimum scores so far for Visi, SJC, and whatever BJOC is. Any others? How about Stone Ridge? Ireton or O’Connell? We could start a thread for HSPT scores for every Catholic in the DMV.

Am I wrong? I have no personal experience in public, but I thought that was true. But if this is an exaggeration, please tell me! I live in APS boundaries, so maybe I'm getting an incorrect impression from neighbors and/or maybe this isn't true everywhere?
Not trying to be insensitive, but that has also been our experience. Maybe ours is a skewed view, but almost everyone we know from public who would be applying to private schools have straight A's and are in gifted or advanced classes. This is for Upper School applications. If others have a different experience, please share. Not trying to be rude. Just sharing our experience.
And yet my two former APS kids (k-8) now high schoolers still have straight As in their private Independent. They don’t seem to be struggling in Honors/APS like many classmates (a Junior & Freshmen). But their HSPTs were in the upper 90s.
Don’t knock public school kids.
+1. My DC who attended APS for K-8 has had the same experience in HS. He had straight As in middle and is taking all honors classes at a private HS and earning close to all As. He scored in the mid 90s on his HSPTs. He’s a bright kid and his private HS has been a great fit for him for many reasons. But APS also deserves credit for preparing him well.

It is not true, I know plenty of kids who don’t have all A’s. Families looking at privates probably skew towards higher achieving kids so all A’s may be valid in your bubble but it’s not reflective of all APS students.

I have no idea where you got the idea I was knocking public school kids. I have a current public middle schooler applying to private.
Two different PPs. One with a public school MSer saying the kids they encounter applying to private from public have all As in advanced classes and gifted programs. The other, earlier PP with no experience of public saying well, we all know everyone gets As in public >wink<>wink<

That’s why I am a fan of tests required (college and high school). It gives you an additional marker, along with recs. Schools and their rigor/grading can be vastly different. Your kids’ scores backed their grades/performance.
And I know kids that test lower can still succeed and do well. But the privates have a relation with other privates and our familiar with them.
