I am no longer buying anything without pockets. It’s life-improving.

Another pocket fan. I think designers skip them because, like lining for pants or tailoring that would actually make pants or a skirt fit across a women’s hips, thighs and belly, it increases production cost. They are making clothes like a 6 year old does—cut two pants shapes out of fabric and sew them together. I’m exxagersting, but not by much. Check out how many women on metro have skirts that are shorter in back than in the front — that’s because clothing manufacturers are too cheap to built in the tailoring and fabric to cover a female butt.

Soma and Toad & Co both ensure pockets in their dresses

I particularly like Soma because they do built in bra dresses with padding, which are perfect for summer.

Great for travel.

If women's fashion responded to market demand, then we wouldn't have 90% of the stores selling sizes that fit less than 50% of the population.

The lack of pockets is usually explained in a joking-not-joking way as a conspiracy of the patriarchy. Is there actually pent up demand for women's clothes that have pockets? If so, it seems like some entrepreneurs could make a fantastic amount of money by offering women's clothes with pockets, and I wonder why they haven't. My guess is that women say they want pockets, but by and large, when they go looking for clothes, they think the stuff that does have pockets is ugly and choose something else.

But I'm just a dude with no background in the clothing industry and who rarely shops for clothes anyway. Anyone with insight into what's *really* going on here?

Yes, there's a demand. Is it really so hard to believe that women mean what they say?

No. It's hard to believe that someone isn't rushing to make money hand-over-fist by meeting that demand.

They ARE. It's become much more common to find them now.

I WANT pockets.

I absolutely hate having nowhere to put my phone, or just feel awkward without somewhere to put my hands. Especially true if I don't want to carry a pocket book somewhere, but want to walk around with my cell phone (like at work).

A line dresses are super cute with pockets.

Every day I go to work, I literally think about if my pants have pockets or not to ensure that if not, I have a cardigan that does have pockets.

More pockets please.

This whole thread is why I'm rarely seen out and about without my fairly low profile fanny pack. It holds anything I would fit into a pocket but is more secure and also I don't have to worry about emptying my pockets at the end of the day or mistakenly sending my keys into the washing machine or forgetting to transfer something essential from one purse to the other. On occasion I will put my fanny pack into a purse if I'm going to a meeting or something. I work in an office full time and take off the fanny pack when I'm there.

I've downsized my wallet to basically a card holder, which helps.

Reading this I know I sound so out of fashion. I'm a 36yo mom of two and not totally unfashionable. My clothes look good, I've just succumbed to this.
