I mean, I have a pretty good idea why you weren't invited...

+1 and I would being removing the neighbor from any future party invites to my house. With a smile on my face of course.

Yes this would permanently put the person on the "do not invite" list.

OP, if you saw cars then that means it was a lot of people not from the neighborhood. People often have different friend groups. For the mix of people they invited this year, it didn't make sense to invite you. The fact that the neighbor volunteered the info about the party to you means she felt no awkwardness about not inviting you. It wasn't an insult.

Your “joking rapport” was awkward as hell. Grow up.

Neighbor should not have mentioned she had a lot of recycling from party since other neighbor has been invited in the past and not this time.
Should have just not mentioned it.

Why? Because you think she should feel guilty for not inviting a neighbor? I bet the neighbor always goes when invited, but never hosts. She probably brings a $10 bottle of wine too.

I bet you're a person who makes stuff up on internet message boards.

Nope

I would absolutely cut you off for that rude as question about the invitation.

Well it wasn't small and I wonder what we did to get cut from the list? I just feel weird about it and like I did something wrong?

LOL OP. You were not on the list to begin with.

OP saw the cars. Knew there was a party. Neighbor wasn't telling her something she didn't already know. If OP was totally oblivious that she missed out on something then it would be weird to bring it up out of nowhere. Pretending she didn't have a party would be more awkward.

Psycho, she was taking out the recycling.

Speaking of rude...

Let it go. Maybe you think you have a joking rapport with her and she actually doesn’t enjoy it or finds your comments over the line. Saying “I guess we didn’t make the list this year” isn’t going to make it more likely that you will be invited next year unless it’s out of pity. I would have said, “It sounds like a great party,” and I would have meant it. We have many gatherings without inviting neighbors we like, as do they.

So the neighbor can’t have a party in her own house? Ridiculous.
