They are just innocent, misunderstood creatures. They were probably provoked. There’s nothing wrong with the breed at all.

I'm a big dog woman and I've stopped both volunteering with and donating to most shelters because they can't solve their pit problem and are often part of the pit propaganda machine. I think it's disgusting.
No Kill was cool when we were talking about an escaped Lassie who needed to spend a night with animal control before the owners arrived for a pickup, but it's ludicrous now. Bite histories distorted, lying about breeds, pushing pits as the ultimate family dog just to get them out of there, some spending YEARS in a subpar environment . It's honestly disgusting and negatively impacts so many people (not to mention the dogs and cats killed) who have to live with these dogs around them. And I feel for the dogs! It's total ahit humans who keep breeding these beasts, dumping them on the side of the road, trying to get 25 bucks for a pup, etc.
Trash dogs and trash humans. Like they deserve each other.

One thing that really would help is if animal shelters stopped adopting them out (and frankly, sent them to kill shelters). I took my kids to the animal shelter recently to drop off some blankets and literally ALL the dogs there were pits or pit mixes and they were so loud and aggressive. My kids didn't want to go into the dog room, they were so scared.

Same thing happened to me as a teen when I was walking my dog, except he was attacked by a Rottweiler. The Rottie was being walked off leash by another teen, no older than 1-143! That dog didn't even have a collar on, and it was so hard to pull him away as he was all muscle. He nearly killed my dog who needed extensive neck stitches.
I live in an apartment building now that does not allow Pitts, Rottweilers, German Shepherds and Dobermans. Smart dogs, but their jaws are deadly.

Why keep breeding these ugly, potentially deadly dogs when there are literally hundreds of other, better breeds? I am all for adopting all the existing ones, but this madness has to stop. Make it illegal to breed and own them 15 years from now. You have a pitt in the year 2038 and beyond, you pay a $10k fine. Problem solved.

They're a scourge and the PR campaign to make them seem like safe family pets is disgusting. The number of times they kill their loving owners is really, really twisted. I remember the case where another pit advocate took her two beloved dogs on a hike and she was found dead, dogs stomachs full of her flesh. People want to act like this is normal? Another Pittie mom witnessed a mugging and tried to sic her pit on the mugger and it just turned on the victim and the owner. They're literally turned on by violence and indiscriminate about who they go after once in fight mode due to gameness and breeding. It's totally crazy.

And those are the public numbers, the ones we’ve been made aware of by the media. How many other pets have been mauled to death by these animals? How many bad bites are being covered up?
These dogs are a menace. There is no other breed that “just snaps” after years of “being the sweetest good boy ever.” There is no other breed that is so ubiquitous and so dangerous with so many unintelligent owners who simultaneously say “it’s how their [sic] raised” and “you provoked my dog by [insert something totally normal and not remotely provocative like walking or riding a bike].”

But then I remembered that 10 years ago, my best-dog-ever Lab mix (since deceased, but not because of this) was attacked by a pit. The pitbull grabbed his neck in his mouth and shook him over and over. I was frantic. The pits' owner, a very strong, large man, used lots of force to try to get him off my dog. We had the idea to throw water up at the pits' face, so I ran to get a pitcher of water.
It worked. Pit had to release so he could breathe. Dogs got separated, and my dog was hurt and sore but not requiring emergency care. The pit owners seemed like decent people, and I would have followed up with them, but they moved away days later!
