NP - I actually think for wineries you are better off doing France. Esp during Holy Wk. this is Italy and they do not mess around with Holy Wk! Italy is great for food, beauty, soaking up a scene. I think you'd enjoy for a certain focus like wines, going to France.

OP here reporting back post Italy trip!

We had an incredible time. Thank you for everyone who shared tips and opinions here.

We ended up flying in and out of rome and did 3 nights in rome, 3 florence, and 2 Siena, where we had a car to drive around and explore Tuscany. A final night in rome necessitated by an early morning flight.

It was a great trip and I’m glad we got to see a combination of rome city sights and also spend more relaxing time in Tuscany. I already have thoughts for next trip and other places I want to see.

You can do plenty from Rome and have more options for train travel to smaller locations for day trips/hikes.

I love Rome but it’s a totally different experience than what OP seems to be after in terms of wineries and hikes, and she did say she wanted Tuscany.

OP here- I live in a huge US city and am intrigued by rome also. I love Lisbon, Barcelona, Madrid. Want to see both on this trip

any recommendations for where to go on the coast between rome and genoa?

I figured as much -we were there in April, and many places were dropping requirements.

If you are staying in Rome, aside from the usual, a day trip to Tivoli is quite easy and a great day out. I'd also try to go to the football if possible. A Roma match will be a real experience.

I’m 17:56. I know it’s not complicated. My quote grabbed your note and not the prior one- the one that’s been giving people a hard time about Italy and apparently their travel qualifications. I was just poking back…all in good fun. I never try to take this board too seriously 😊
