The best athletes at DC's school are multis port. Where it gets harder is for the kid who is good but not great at multiple sports. That kid who may have made the team if they attended everything in the offseason, but probably isn't a starter will have a harder time showing up at tryouts coming off of football playoffs

Correct. He (I) is saying most of the girls on the freshmen teams were rec level and not FCYBL/AAU players.
