Not only Butch, Tyler's sister is an addict, maternal grandma too. None of their family members were worthy of ever being near a child.

I doubt the adoptive parents had any idea the circus this show would bring. I can very much see myself being welcoming to regular visitation / relationship normally and then very very guarded and protective of a child when the visitation came with decades long reality tv side show of drama. who wouldn't want to protect their child from that. the parents (i forget their names) could easily drop out of the show any time and live a private life and most likely have more access

Sounds really like they agreed to the open adoption if that is the only way to adopt the child, since the agreement cannot be legally force
I do not think C & T are guilty of rehashing the adoption on tv, That is the whole purpose of there being on the show, and the show is about teen parenting, growing up with a baby and in their case dealing with the aftermath of a happy adoption story
Except the adoptive parents want the adoption closed and use the show as an excuse
What is the point of agreeing to a meeting and then canceling at the last minute?
Or agreeing to yearly visits and then not letting them see the kid for 2 years?
Based on a little googling the adoptive parents have been quite willing to participate in the show
That aside, it is a pity neither C or T has managed to move on
Hopefully it works out better for the adoptee, her bio parents certainly come with a lot of baggage. Somehow they were sold this beautiful story about how wonderful adoption would be, but it didn’t turn out like that

THEY ARE REHASHING IT because, as you say, that is the purpose of the show.
They had a choice to walk away from the show and they choose not to. Even all these years later they haven’t got it together.
Adoption affects the birth parents forever . It just the reality of adoption. So show or no show it would still affect them. Maybe what would have been different is they would have been able to develop a better relationship with the adoptive parents and their daughter. I totally understand the parents wanting nothing to do with having their child continue to be on an MTV reality series or themselves.

I think watching Caitlyn + Tyler’s first-hand experience in placing Carly up for adoption shows the audience that giving up your child is not always as easy as it may seem.
For those pro-life people out & about - they present this lovely but false narrative around how adoption is such a better and more ideal option than abortion.
That it is ideal to carry your baby to term then give him/her up to a childless couple and the child will live happily ever after.
But no one addresses the guilt, resentment and/or empty void in one’s heart for life after giving away your own flesh and blood.
Adoption is not something that everyone can emotionally handle as each circumstance is unique.
Also open adoptions are beneficial to the adopted child in most occasions however these types of circumstances may also create problematic ones as well.

Janelle - Full on train wreck with an abusive husband. She keeps her children in that situation. I'm not sure what that says about her. No backbone, blames her mother for her issues, let 3 different men knock her up.
Maci - I didn't realize she admitted to "whipping" her child. I want to say "that's the south", but at this day and age one should know better. I don't recall ever seeing her parents during the show though, so I'm not sure how well she learned how to parent. Bentley does seem fairly well adjusted though.
Cait & Ty - Adoption was a good choice for them at the time. Cait's mom was using, Ty's dad is a disaster, and his mom wasn't willing to help. They did make a good decision for Carly, but keeping her in the picture definitely keeps things more difficult. Especially with them "growing up" as Carly is growing up. Yes Cait has some mental health issues that she's addressing. I feel like they are the most "stable" of the group.
Farrah - The best thing I can say about her is she didn't let anyone else knock her up. I'm not sure how well Sophia is turning out. Clearly that's not a typical upbringing.

I maintain that’s because there’s a TV show that has paid her for ten years to think about Carly more than anything else 24/7 including their subsequent daughter who they did not place for adoption.
This. But for the show, Carley’s impact on them would be minimal. The show requires them to rehash, on camera, the emotions tied to the adoption. The speaking engagements are all tied to it - because it keeps them relevant, which keeps them on a show called teen mom, even though they are much older.
