I live in Toronto and there’s a neighborhood that has over 50 giant inflatable Santas every year.

Don't we have other ways to entertain kids? It is unclear to me why we have to every aspect of a holiday about kids. What about lonely older people without kids -- does no one care about making them happy at the holidays?

Not everything has to be for kids. I think the inflatables are ugly and cartoony and my kid likes regular light displays, too, so it seems like the obvious choice is to do the thing that's more broadly appealing. Plus there are lots of tacky, kid-centric holiday activities and displays in commercial places. You don't have to turn your house into one.

Personally, I like beauty around the holidays. It's so dark out and the weather is cold and dreary, and seeing a really beautifully decorated home warms my soul. The giant inflatables just don't do anything for me and sometimes they are weird or disturbing looking.

Bring on the inflatables! We bought some after the kids started making us stop in front of the "tacky" house on our way home every day, and over Halloween, we heard a kid crying outside our house and it was because a neighbor was on a walk with her toddler and he was super upset that our two blow ups weren't up yet. Agree with everyone else - we do it for the kids!

I used to think they were tacky until I drove by a legit mansion that had an enormous inflatable near the front gates. It looked fun. Since then, I’ve tried to replicate the feeling of not being so serious with my normal all white lights look.

They are the opposite of beautiful or elegant, but perfect for entertaining kids.

The whole point of Christmas decorations is to point us towards the hope that Jesus’ birth brought to our fallen world. I personally find commercial and tacky Christmas decorations depressing.

However, if tacky commercial Xmas decor brings joy to some then let it be.

There's a whole yard full of pink flamingos in Santa hats near me. They're awesome too.

+1 ROFL so true. No one is expecting others to be impressed. It's just fun!

My kid loves inflatables. The more the better! We drive around looking for them and she loves it.
