I’ve heard UMD gives little in merit aid (except for the big awards).
My above average student, but my no means stellar student, got a $3500 per semester scholarship to UMBC last year. A lot of her friends got the same offer. That made it extremely attractive. I honestly don’t know of anyone who got any money to go to University of Maryland. My daughter’s friends were just thankful they got in.
By the way, that $3500 scholarship required a 3.25 to keep it. Which is higher than any of the other schools. She didn’t choose UMBC. But it is getting more popular. Her friend there, who is in stem, said it’s really hard!
Just curious, where did she go?

Where did you see that SUNYs give instate tuition for OOS?
Anonymous wrote:Anyone have recent experience with strong merit aid packages being offered at a state school? My daughter is a strong student interested in premed but we can’t afford privates and although she’s hoping private schools will give her merit aid, I’m not so sure. I noticed Arizona is offering very strong merit aid for out of state strong students, like 32K a year. Anyone have any others to recommend?.
