oh my NW DC is such a crazy world.
Im a ftm with a baby that just started day care and I didnt know this was a thing.
My mom was a pre-school teaching and she got so many ornaments and mugs and later on gift cards. She would always use them to take me places (nails, coffee) when I was home from college.

My kid goes to NW DC and they collect money on each teacher's birthday and a few other occasions (3). We gave $150 first time but slowed down as soon as we realized we have to contribute 5 times per year at least

Give gift cards with money to teachers and the assistants. The assistants do most of the job while the teacher just stands there. Assistants assists the children, change their diapers, etc.

I tend to give less to teacher assistant. This year, I don't like teacher assistant because she rarely talks to me. All she does is to chit chat with other helpers and ignore me when I drop off or pick up my kid. She talks actively with a few moms and dads. My husband has picked up our kid a few times, she would actively give him updates.

I purchased what I like for each staff member and also depending on my daughter’s interaction with them (front desk or school chef vs her favorite teacher) not exceeding $150 and not under $50.

Our preschool says no gift over $25. So I give them $25 gift cards at every holiday (thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s, my kid’s birthday) so that I’m technically not violating the rule. We’ve been there with two kids over 5 years and no complaints yet.

We have $100 to each of the 3 classroom teachers and also contributed $100 to the center-wide gift to all the staff and admins. They were very happy.

Main teachers and assistants that are there every day got a 75 dollar gift card each. There are 4 of them. All the other staff (kitchen, office, director, floaters etc) got a 25 dollar card. I think I spent about 450 total which is one week.
